Setting Targets for Website Design
Setting targets for a church website is perhaps one of the most
important steps you will have to take in your online development.
Before we enter into a
design project, we ask our clients to consider the targets for their website.
What is it that you would like to achieve? You may find yourself looking at a
short list, or a list that has potentially hundreds of targets - it is, however,
important to ensure that you have SMART targets. See your example below to help
guide you.

We have provided
below a list of example targets that can be incorporated into your own target
list. Each one of these targets will represent an area where we, as designers,
need to consider when drafting a design proposal for the website. This ensures
that the website we create reflects your needs and expectations as well as
giving us the opportunity to track and make adjustments once the site is online.
If your church has a Mission Statement, many of your initial targets can be
developed from this.
To increase
awareness of the Church and its Mission
Actively
celebrate
the Holy Scriptures and enable people outside the church community to
learn and engage through online resources, articles, newsletters, commentaries
etc.
To be an up to
date source of information on times of worship and other events in the
life of your church.
To be a means
of contacting the clergy specifically for people who are rarely or never
attend church and who seek information on baptism, weddings and funerals.
To make
available information on the church buildings and how they have served their
communities over the years.
To enable
people who miss church and others to read sermons after they have been
preached.
To provide
information on what the local church is about for people who would be
reluctant to attend church. To enable churches or parishes within a geographical
area to develop the fellowship between them.
To provide a
spotlight for church groups, organisations, meetings and events.
To provide
resources and commentaries about the Ministry and Fellowship of each church
and extend links within the global community.
